Breastfeeding...at 8.

This is a hard one I have mixed feelings about it I know breast feeding is natural but i kinda feel like it is for the mothers benefit rather than the kids by this stage maybe not but wouldn't it be weird to remember it? Whats your thoughts on it? I'm not a mother and have never breast fed so my opinion might change if I had. I actually worked for some people in Spain and the mother had breast fed her child up to age 5, I didn't think about it too much while I was quite openminded towards it but the two guys I was travelling with thought it was really messed up and strange. What do you think?

  1. If you're old enough to ask for it, you're too old to have it.

This video completely and utterly repulses me.

  2. That's a bit weird.....Little Britain springs to mind!
I don't think I would breast feed up to the age of 8, but each to their own I guess!!

  3. While I'm not against extended breastfeeding into toddlerhood, I agree that if you can ask for it, you're too old. I remember going to a breastfeeding group when my first daughter was a baby, and the woman leading it was breastfeeding a 3 or 4 year old, and it just seemed unnecessary and inappropriate.

  4. What a beautiful connection for the family. Until now, I'd not thought about the subject, but I have to agree "each to their own".

  5. Hmmm...it is definitely a personal preference.
I personally became apprehensive when they started to show teeth :)

I can think of a lot more harmful things being done today to children and this is certainly not one of them.

    So enjoy!

    Have very good day!

  6. Yuck, It is strange how the act of breastfeeding can go from nurturing to self serving, just by changing the age of the child. The woman is breastfeeding for herself not the child.
I know if that was filmed near where I live and then put on TV the kid would be bullied and probably beat up. I cant decide what is worse, breastfeeding a 8 year old or televising it for all the world to see.

  7. I think breastfeeding should stop after the child turns 2 years old. After that it is just not necessary.

  8. I hated breast feeding. But if a mom wants to do it until the kid is 2 or 3 I have no big problem with it. I think it's a bit strange and maybe the mom is trying to avoid dealing with some things in her life but hey it's her life. That said 8 is pedo weird. Give the kid some Spaghettios and call it good.

  9. This is very strange indeed, and almost incestuous. At age 8 you are in second or third grade? That is TOO OLD. Just repulsive.
I think breast feeding is beautiful in and of itself...to about 12 months. After that...bottle or sippy cup.

  10. completely sick to me... I am still breastfeeding my third baby who just turned one and this is definitely natural time to end it... children can eat everything now, maybe you can carry on till your baby will be two but this isn`t necessary, my older just turned eight I just cannot imagine him nursing now - sick...

  11. This child will likely have (if he has not yet developed) significant separation issues. This breastfeeding is not being done for health or feeding reasons but secondary to emotional needs. She should stop, but slowly and gently.

  12. That's just weird! I wonder if her kid turns 16 and ask for it will she still give it to her? that is just gross!

  13. A bit strange, after a certain age I do believe stop, just stop.

  14. To each their own, but for me enough is enough by a certain age. I rather do other things with them than that, to bond. It's hard having a baby nursing all of the time so when it's time for them to be done it's a bit of a relief, for me anyway.

  15. Well I breast fed my daughter till she was 1 and in my opinion that was the age to stop.
Don't see anything wrong with it by age 2, but for me as the first comment said:

"If you're old enough to ask for it, you're too old to have it."

  16. I think it's sick and wrong. It's nearly child abuse as far as I'm concerned. *shudder*

  17. Eight seems rather old, but there is nothing inherently repulsive or pedo about this. Breasts are not supposed to be the over-hyped sexual objects they have become in the West & a few other places. It is entirely normal in the world and in history to breastfeed until 4 or later. Children mature at different ages & most individuals who breastfeed later are waiting until the children themselves decide to stop.
Anyway, I should also say I don't have children yet, so I'm not at all speaking about myself. Also can't see breastfeeding past 3 at the MAX. I just find it kind of repulsive that so many people equate breastfeeding with some sort of selfish sexual thing!
